Shortcut Key: Press Windows + Shift + S to activate the Snipping Tool via Snip & Sketch or Snipping Tool app. Then try clicking the second icon (Window Snip) at the top.
Snipping Tool vs Snip & Sketch:
In Windows 10/11, Microsoft merged Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch.
Make sure you are using the latest Snipping Tool app (check via Microsoft Store).
🔧 Fixes to Try
1. Restart the Snipping Tool Process
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Look for Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch.
Right-click it > End task.
Try using Windows + Shift + S again.
2. Check Clipboard Settings
Go to Settings > System > Clipboard.
Make sure Clipboard history is ON.
You can also turn it OFF and ON again to refresh.
3. Reset or Repair the Snipping Tool
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
Search for Snipping Tool.
Click the 3 dots > Advanced options.
Try Repair first. If that doesn’t work, click Reset.
4. Update Windows
Go to Settings > Windows Update, and install any available updates.
Sometimes a bug in the tool is fixed in a newer update.
5. Use Print Screen as Backup
Press Alt + Print Screen – this captures the active window and copies it to the clipboard.
Paste it into Paint or any image editor with Ctrl + V.
